1985 Diamond Back Apex

Diamond Back Apex

The Diamond Back Apex was Centurion's high end mountain bike manufactured in 1985.

The Apex is a huge revamp of the Diamond Back line of mountain bikes. No longer is Diamond Back using the full Suntour component group. Only two components are Suntour and the rest is now Shimano. The two remain Suntour components are the Suntour XC-II bear claw pedals and the Suntour XC Power Cunningham Design rear bottom mounted roller cam brakes.

The Shimano group used was the top of the line Shimano M700 series. This series is also known as the Shimano Deer Head series because of the deer head insignia used on the derailleur's.

The Suzue high flanged hubs are sealed cartridge bears and are of very high quality. They are to the quality of Phil Wood hubs but without the nostalgia or brand recognition.

The most interesting design aspect of this bike is the chain stay is comprised of three spokes as shown below in picture #4.
